Meet the omelette guy

Meet the Omelette Guy, Carl Springer. He’s famous for preparing omelettes, eggs, fruit and snacks along the Appalachian Trail near Mt. Cube in New Hampshire.  Carl heard about “trail magic” along the AT years ago and decided he’d like to be part of it while in retirement. He sets up a huge feast for many thankful hikers passing by on the AT. Osprey Packs produced a great video showing just how magical he is.

The 2018 Oregon Timber Trail Event Calendar

The Oregon Timber Trail is a 670-mile bikepacking route crossing Oregon from California to the Columbia River Gorge and consists of more than 50 percent single-track. Sound amazing? Well it is, thanks to a lot of people pouring their love of the outdoors and cycling into it. Even more exciting is that the 2018 Event Calendar for the Oregon Timber Trail is out. This years activities cover a wide range of events from cooking in the backcountry (yay!), to slideshows, to weekend-long certifications, trail stewardship events and even a fun Grand depart ride! What are you doing this summer? To donate your time, money or learn more about the trail visit oregontimbertrail.org. (images courtesy of VanWeelden Creative).

Down the river on a raft

Here’s the latest creation from Studiocanoe produced by Alastair Humphreys and Haglöfs. The video documents the building of a sturdy log raft which the crew will eventually be embarking down the Klarälven River in Sweden for a week. From the flow of the river to the sparking of the warming fire this adventure checks off all the boxes for messkit. Can't you just smell the sizzling of the veggies, steaming of the cakes and crackling of the sausage over the open fire?
